As the late summer sun beams down on Park City, we can't think of a better way to spend a day than getting out and about with our canine companions. The Dog Days of Summer is one of our most popular newsletters, and for good reason: people here in "Bark City" are crazy about their dogs!

We hope you enjoy the following canine-related news and events, as well as some fun ideas for spending time with your pups. Please take note of the increased emphasis on our local animal rescue organizations this year. Due to an increased influx of animals in our local shelters post-pandemic, these organizations need our help more than ever!

This popular event is postponed to Memorial Day 2024 due to facility upgrades. The Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation has secured funding to upgrade the Utah Olympic venues, including the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center. Due to the extensive construction, the 2023 Soldier Hollow Classic will be on a brief hiatus. The anticipation is sure to make the comeback even more exciting! This new date, along with the venue improvements, promises to provide a bigger and better experience for all. Mark your calendars, and see you next year!

HELP WANTED
Our Local Rescues Need You!

Our community is fortunate to have some of the best animal rescue operations around, but they need our help! Many of our local shelters are operating at high capacities, and they could use assistance, whether in the form of fostering, volunteering, or donations. The Park Record did a great feature earlier this summer on the shortage of foster homes in Heber. Please consider helping out one of our local rescue operations!

STREET DAWG CREW OF UTAH

People experiencing homelessness who have pets often have difficulty accessing services. Fortunately, Street Dawg Crew of Utah is a nonprofit with a mission to serve the pets of the homeless and other low-income and vulnerable populations. They offer free pet food and supplies, promote positive and responsible pet ownership, and provide pet owners with low-cost pet resources.

This is the 4th annual event! Participation will help save animals and support Paws For Life Utah. This year the need is urgent as our shelters are over capacity with an unprecedented level of animals needing help. Tournament details: 7:30 am light breakfast and registration, 9:00 am shotgun start. The format is a fun scramble with no handicaps.

On the course, there will be fun contests with great prizes along with snacks and beverages. After play you'll enjoy a delicious catered lunch and silent auction in the newly renovated Red Ledges Clubhouse.  Presentations and awards begin 45 minutes after the first group finishes.

HUGO COFFEE SHOP

We consistently support and endorse Hugo Coffee, and it is easy to see why. Through their initiatives that benefit our furry friends, this distinguished coffee destination infuses our community with both love and caffeine. Hugo Coffee's mission is to "rescue dogs by roasting and selling exceptional, fair-trade, organic coffee."

WINE IS GOOD FOR DOGS?

Yes, but we have to drink it on their behalf. Thanks to a recently-announced partnership, Russian River Vineyards will be donating a percentage of sales of their Chester wines to Nuzzles & Co to assist their animal-rescue efforts. There are currently four Chester Wines available in Utah. Look for them at your local vendor.

HOW-TO: AVALANCHE DOGS

Ever wonder where avalanche dogs receive their training? We were pretty curious about this ourselves, so we found an article from SnowBrains.com that provides a deep dive into the rigorous process of training a patrol dog. We look forward to seeing our local team of avalanche dogs out on the slopes later this year!
